there was a god, upon a time,
whose might was great and pride was more
who made a creature good and mild
who knew nothing of pain or war

this creature was a happy one
and but a single gender had
and though he knew his life was brief
his food and shelter made him glad

he didn't know where he had come from
or that the god had any worth
he thought he had been there forever
and was in charge of all the earth

but when this god found out about
his creature's system of beliefs
his pride was burnt, he was enraged
his anger needed some relief

he sent a bolt of lightening down
(he'd done this sort of thing before)
he split the creature into two
to prove his might and settle the score

the creature lived, but in two parts
with two genders between the pair
but even with the two of them
a single soul they had to share

but even this was not enough
to satisfy the vengeful god
he moved them each around the world
to put between them further sod

and then he left them to their task
of each trying to find the other
for alone, they had half-souls
and felt they needed one another

at the beginning of my life
my half-soul knew its happy fate
of finding you, my other half
my chosen one, my soul mate
